Edward Staveley b. 1828 in Thornton Curtis, Lincolnshire is the son of William Staveley and Amelia ABRAHAM. Edward married Annie BLAND and initially settled in Dundee, Scotland. In 1859 a child Michael Edward Staveley was born in Barton Upon Humber, but died in infancy. By 1861 we find Edward's family residing in Sheffield:

In 1871 son William is a coal miner lodging in the LIMB household in Great Preston, Yorkshire.
Eliza Amelia Staveley married Henry Francis MARSH in 1874 in Sheffield, and settled in Nether Hallam by 1881.
Edward and Annie have not been located in 1871, but by 1881 Edward appears to have remarried by 1881, although a record of this marriage has not been found:
1881: 27 Nursery St., Brightside Bierlow, Yorkshire, England
| Edward STAVELEY | Head | M | Male | 51 | Thornton, Lincolnshire, England | Steel Mill Drawer |
| Margaret STAVELEY | Wife | M | Female | 53 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England |
Edward died in Sheffield in 1890 at the age of 61 years. His wife Margaret died in 1894 at the age of 67.
An additional group of Staveleys living around the Sheffield area were originally from Dore, Derbyshire. In 1846, Francis Staveley b. 1824, son of Samuel Staveley and Hannah OATES of Dore, married Amelia Ann SHAW. They had a son in 1847, registered during the September quarter of that year as "Male Staveley". Amelia died shortly after childbirth, and Francis appears to have given up his son. In 1851 Francis is visiting with his SHAW in-laws in Sheffield:
1851: 134 Bath Street, Ecclesall Bierlow, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
| William SHAW | Head | M | Male | 54 | Pontefract, Yorkshire, England | Professor of Music |
| Emma SHAW | Wife | M | Female | 45 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | |

| John SHAW | Visitor | S | Male | 31 | Doncaster, Yorkshire, England | Professor of Music |
| Francis STAVELY | Visitor | S | Male | 29 | Dore, Derbyshire, England | Scythe Maker |
Francis' son Joseph is found lodging in the LAITHWAITE household in Horwich, Lancashire, aged 4 years.
By 1861 Francis has remarried, and is living in Beighton with his wife Ann and daughter Jane. Son Joseph has not yet been located in 1861, but by 1871 is living in Ancoats, Lancashire, with his wife Mary Jane NOAR.
John W. Staveley below was also the son of Samuel Staveley of Dore, Derbyshire and Hannah OATES, brother to Francis above. John was born in Dore, Derbyshire about 1826 (based upon 1841 census records for Norton, Derbyshire). John married Jemima PARRY in 1848 in Chester, Cheshire. It appears the family moved from Chester shortly after son Thomas was born, and relocated briefly to Wednesfield, Staffordshire before arriving in Sheffield around 1856.
1861: 53 Lansdowne Road, Ecclesall Bierlow, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
| John STAVELEY | Head | M | Male | 35 | Dore, Derby, England | Stone Mason |
| Jemima STAVELEY | Wife | M | Female | 38 | Chester, Cheshire, England | |
| Elizabeth PARRY | Step Daur | S | Female | 17 | Chester, Cheshire, England | Servant |

| Annie STAVELEY | Daur | S | Female | 3 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | |
| William STAVELEY | Son | S | Male | 1 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England |
John and Jemima's daughter Harriet who was born in Staffordshire in 1850 is found residing in Ecclesall Bierlow in 1861 in the PARAMORE household, employed as a nurse girl, aged 11 years.
John and Jemima's stay in Sheffield was brief, and soon after this census was taken, their family relocated to Birkenhead, Cheshire, perhaps so John could be closer to his blind sister Sarah who had recently been sent to the Hardman School for the Blind, in Birkenhead. It is important to note John Staveley's stepdaughter Elizabeth PARRY is residing in his household in 1861. This implies that Jemima PARRY had a previous marriage, and thus Parry would not be Jemima's original maiden name.
John's brother Francis is found in Beighton, Derbyshire in 1861, and his brothers Thomas and Samuel are residing near their parents Samuel and Mary in Norton. By 1871 John and Jemima's son Thomas Staveley is also found living in Beighton, with his in-laws and new wife Martha BANKS.
In 1881 John's brother Thomas is once again living closer to Sheffield, with his wife Elizabeth. Prior to this time Thomas and Elizabeth were living in Norton, Derbyshire.
1881: Abbeydale Road (Lodge), Ecclesall Bierlow, Yorkshire, England
| Thomas STAVELY | Head | M | Male | 51 | Dore, Derby, England | Gardener Domestic Serv |
| Elizabeth STAVELY | Wife | M | Female | 41 | Norton, Derby, England |
It appears that Thomas and Elizabeth never had any children, but continued to remain in the Sheffield area. Thomas' brother Samuel, and his wife Mary had a few children, and appear to have remained in Norton on the Derbyshire - Yorkshire border near Sheffield.
Jesse Staveley is the grandson of Samuel (b. 1799) and Mary of Norton. His father Samuel (b. 1832) is living with Jesse's brother Arthur in Norton in 1901. Jessie however, nephew to Thomas and Elizabeth above, is found living in Sheffield with his wife Jane at this time.
1901: 39 Bailey St., Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
| Jesse STAVELEY | Head | M | Male | 37 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | Stone Mason |
| Jane STAVELEY | Wife | M | Female | 35 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England |
Another Staveley family is residing in Sheffield in 1851. The origins of this line are not clear, but the following family is that of William Staveley and his wife Mary:
1851: 14 Court St, Ecclesall Bierlow, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
| William STAVELY | Head | M | Male | 33 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | File Cutter |
| Mary STAVELY | Wife | M | Female | 36 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | |
| Thomas STAVELY | Son | U | Male | 11 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | |
| Isaac STAVELY | Son | U | Male | 7 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | |
| Mary STAVELY | Daur | U | Female | 5 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | |
| William STAVELY | Son | U | Male | 3 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England |
William died in 1859. After William's death, Mary married a Henry MOSELY, and the Staveley children are found residing in the Mosely household in 1861:
1861: 136 Young Street, Ecclesall Bierlow, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
| Henry MOSLEY | Head | M | Male | 50 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | House Painter |
| Mary MOSLEY | Wife | M | Female | 46 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | |

| Mary STAVELY | Step Daur | U | Female | 15 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | File Cutter |
| William STAVELY | Step Son | U | Male | 13 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | File Cutter |
Mary's son Isaac (b. 1843) married Elizabeth (nee?) in the September quarter of 1864, and is living in Ecclesall Bierlow in 1871:
1871: 126 Young Street, Ecclesall Bierlow, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
| Isaac STAVELEY | Head | M | Male | 27 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | File Cutter** |
| Elizabeth STAVELEY | Wife | M | Female | 26 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | |
| Walter STAVELEY | Son | U | Male | 6 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | Scholar |
| Mary Elizabeth STAVELEY | Daur | Female | 2 | Sheffield, Yorkshire, England | ||
| Elizabeth WRITEMAN | Lodger | W | Female | 63 | Shrewsbury, W. London, England | |
| Martha HERRING | Lodger | U | Female | 22 | Sheffield, York, England | Warehouse Woman |
**Note: The occupation of file cutter is interesting, because in 1843 there is a burial record in the General Cemetery in Sheffield for:
|
William Staveley Age: 72
Occupation: File Smith Residence: Tudor Street, Ecclesall Bierlow Cause of Death: Natural Decay Died: June 6, 1843; Buried: June 7, 1843 |
It is unknown at this time if perhaps William was related to this Staveley family, but it does seem plausible. Nothing else is presently known about William.
There is also a Benjamin Staveley, File Cutter, who was born about 1788 who is residing in Richmond Surrey in 1861. Again as the the occupation is similar it is presumed that perhaps these Staveleys are all related, but the connections are not yet clear.
1881: 197 Pond St, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
| Isaac STAVELY | Head | M | Male | 37 | Sheffield, York, England | Fishmonger |
| Elizabeth STAVELY | Wife | M | Female | 36 | Sheffield, York, England | |

| Rebecca STAVELY | Daur | Female | 5 | Sheffield, York, England | Scholar | |
| Gertrude STAVELY | Daur | Female | 2 | Sheffield, York, England |
Isaac appears to have remarried by 1891 as his wife's name is now Mary (not Elizabeth):
1891: 197 Pond St, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
| Isaac STAVELEY | Head | M | Male | 47 | Sheffield, York, England | Fishmonger |
| Mary E. STAVELEY | Wife | M | Female | 46 | Sheffield, York, England | |

| Rebecca STAVELEY | Daur | Female | 15 | Sheffield, York, England | Bournisher | |
| Gertrude STAVELEY | Daur | Female | 13 | Sheffield, York, England |
It is interesting that Emma suddenly appears in the household in 1891. A review of the 1881 census shows that Emma was actually in hospital during the 1881 census, but there is no indication as to the nature of her illness in the census record:
1881: Public Hospital & Dispensary West Street, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
| Emma STAVELEY | Patient | U | Female | 11 | Sheffield, York, England |
Isaac's son Walter married Amelia MORTON in the June quarter of 1887, and the family is found as follows:
1891: 112 Bard Street, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
| Walter STAVELEY | Head | M | Male | 26 | Sheffield, York, England | Steel Smelter |

| Elizabeth STAVELEY | Daur | Female | 5 | Sheffield, York, England | ||
| Rebecca STAVELEY | Daur | Female | 3 | Sheffield, York, England |
Walter died in the June quarter of 1905 at the age of 40 years. His wife Amelia died in the March quarter of 1928 at the age of 64 years. Walter and Amelia's son Isaac married Jane SPAVOLD in Sheffield in the June quarter of 1913, and they are known to have had at least two sons, and two daughters.
Walter's father Isaac and his family have not been located in the 1901 census, except for Gertrude who married Charles WILSHAW in the March quarter of 1900:
1901: 81 Thomas Street, Ecclesall Bierlow, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
| Charles WILSHAW | Head | M | Male | 26 | Sheffield, York, England | Razor ? |
| Gertrude WILSHAW | Wife | M | Female | 22 | Sheffield, York, England | |
| Charles WILSHAW | Son | U | Female | 10 mo | Sheffield, York, England |
It is known however that Isaac died in the September quarter of 1901 aged 57 years.
There is another Staveley family nearby for a Thomas Staveley born about 1820. It is unknown at this time if this may be a former brother-in-law of Mary MOSELEY's above:

Thomas (b. 1820) died in 1873 at the age of 53 years. Thomas and Eliza's son Thomas married Elizabeth and has the following family in 1871:
