Skirlaugh is situated in the East Riding Yorkshire, approximately 9 miles northeast of Hull, and contained within the parish of Swine. Robert Staveley was born in Rise, Yorkshire in 1764 to parents Christopher Staveley and Mary.
Robert married an Elizabeth, but unfortunately a record of this marriage has not been found. The closest record located to date is for Robert Staveley and Elizabeth COLKWEL, married August 7, 1786 in Humbleton, approximately 7 miles from South Skirlaugh. Regardless, Robert Staveley and Elizabeth had the following children in Skirlaugh:
