Richard Staveley was born in Sledmere in 1777, and married Ruth HOPPER in Wetwang on January 11, 1814.

Richard's brother John Staveley was born in Sledmere and married Lydia NEWLOVE in Wetang on November 7, 1802.  The following year a son John was born, but presumably died soon thereafter.  Another John Staveley was christened to this couple on March 15, 1807 in Wetwang.  It appears that John's first wife Lydia died, as John remarried to a Hannah HALL on May 12, 1824 in Wetwang.  They had the following child in this parish:
