William Robert Staveley is the son of William Brown Staveley (1810-1890) and Eleanor ELWIN. He was born in Falmer, Sussex. He married Mary Gertrude JACKSON on October 8, 1862 in Brighton, and resided in Newhaven, Sussex, where there children were born. In 1881, William is visiting his parents in High Halden Kent with his son. His wife, Mary Gertrude, is visiting with her brother-in-law, Frederick Winbolt Staveley, in Litherland, Lancashire. By 1891 we find the family residing in Seaton Carew:

Prior to living in Seaton Carew, this family was residing in Runcorn, Cheshire where they had three daughters. The twins, Margaret Amelia and Agnes Elwin, listed above, and a daughter Dorinda Barbara Staveley. Dorinda is visiting her Uncle Frederick in Litherland in 1881, but is missing from this household in 1891, and has not been located in the 1891 census. However, she reappears in the 1901 census living with her parents in Beverley, Yorkshire.

William and Mary's son, William Edwin Staveley, married Mary BELL in Hartlepool in 1898, but unfortunately they have not been located in the 1901 census.
