Providence, RI
This Staveley line originates in Stockton on the Forest, in Yorkshire. Benjamin Staveley was born in 1844 in York St. Margaret, to parents Thomas Staveley and Maria SCOTT. He married Harriet ARMITAGE in 1864 and initially settled his family in Fixby, Yorkshire. Benjamin and his wife Harriet emigrated to the United States in the late 1880's and first settled in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. They are later found living in Lowell during the 1910 US Federal Census. Benjamin and Harriet had a number of children in Yorkshire prior to arriving in the United States. Their two youngest sons, Arthur (b. 1878) and Scott (b. 1880) are living in Providence, Rhode Island, by 1910.
Scott and Arthur Staveley are found on the Tewksbury, MA census for 1900 residing with their parents. Scott b. 1880 married Mary HILL and is found in Providence by 1910:

*Phyllis is clearly delineated as a female child of Arthur and Ann in 1930, and clearly as a male child in 1920. It is presumed that the 1920 census entry was erroneously recorded.
During the time of the 1942 draft registration, Arthur Staveley was living in Kent, Rhode Island, where he owned a Retail Foods business at 49 Barton Avenue in Kent.
