Sarah Elizabeth Staveley was born in 1865 to Enos Staveley of Aysgarth, and Elizabeth Davenport. Sarah and her twin brother Enos Davenport Staveley were raised in Higher Booths, Lancashire. In 1891 Sarah married Solomon Ashworth also of Higher Booths, and by 1901 Sarah is found living in Leicester with her husband and two daughters:
