The following is Richard's will, including references to his two brothers, his wife, and his three children:
In the name of God Amen
I Richard Staveley of Ffenchurch Street London Druggist being in perfect memory and sound in body and mind (God be praised) do make and ordain this my last will and testament ffirst I command my soul to the almighty God and my body to be buried at the discretion of my executor and my estate to be dispose as follows. Item I give and bequeath unto my good and worthy ffriend William Merle of Bartholomew Square Banker and Refiner of Metals all my property or estate I may die possessed of and for him to dispose off as he may think proper after paying all my debts owing to any good and worthy ffriends Messrs Cox, Merle and Company and whom also I may be indebted to ffuneral expenses and being paid. Item I give and bequeath unto my brothers Luke and Thomas Staveley and their heirs ffive shillings each as a total barr to any future claims whatsoever on my estates they may have. Item I give and bequeath to my wife Dorothy Staveley all my Estates what ever for her sole use and benefit to be disposed off as she may think proper recommending her to apply what she may think proper of my estate to the suport benefit and use of my dear son Richard Staveley now seventeen years ld intended for to reside in the East Indias and also to my dear loving daughters Sophia Staveley and Dorinda Staveley for their support and maintenance as my dear loving wife Dorothy Staveley now with and in ? may give my said three dear children mentioned above as she may think right to give them. I do hereby revoke and make null and void all my fformer wills In witness whereof I have here unto sett my hand and seal this ffourth day of September one thousand Seven hundred and ninety eight. 9th November 1798: Appeared Personally Robert Bolger of Tudor Street in the precinct of ? London Gentleman and made oath that he knew and was well acquainted with Richard Staveley late of Ffenchurch Street London Druggist deceased and with his manner and character of handwriting and subscription having often seen him write and subscribe his name and the deponent having carefully viewed and perused the paper writing hereto annexed purporting to be and contain the last will and testament of the said deceased beginning thus. "In the name of God Amen I Richard Staveley of Ffenchurch Street London Druggist" ending thus "this ffourth day of September one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight" and thus subscribed "Richard Staveley" further make made that he verily and in his conscious believe is the whole body ? and contents of the said paper writing beginning ending and subscribed as aforesaid to be of the proper hand writing and subscription of the said Richard Staveley deceased. Robert Bolger. On the day aforesaid the said Robert Bolger was duly sworn to the truth of this affidavit before me Ch. Robinson Surr:Prost. Chas. Bedford Npul.
This will was proved at London the third day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight before the worshipful Charles Cook Doctor of Law and Surrogate of the Right honorable Sir William Wynne Knight Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of William Merle the executor according to the tenor of the will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the Goods, Chattles and Heredits of the said deceased having been first sworn duly to administer.
Richard and Dorothy's son, Richard Henry Thomas Staveley, married Mary Ann FYFE on August 22, 1805 at St. Alban Wood Street, London.
