Winster, Derbyshire

Robert Staveley and Mary IRONMONGER had at least three children in Winster, Derbyshire.  The first, John Staveley, was born May 14, 1780.  Robert and Mary also had a son Ralph born June 21, 1787.  A daughter Jane was buried on November 5, 1784.

There is a reference to a Robert Staveley in the Winster Settlement Examinations 1718-1830 that suggest this Robert Staveley "of Winster" may have been originally from Tideswell:

Robert STAVELEY - of Winster, barber. Born Tideswell Derbyshire, left father's family when 22 years old and went to reside at Winster. In year 1779 his father died and being the eldest son he entered upon his effects together with a farm which his father rented from the late Mr FREEMAN of Whetstone though he continued to live at Winster, his mother lived in the house rent free.

Robert's wife Mary was buried in Winster on March 11, 1810.

Robert and Mary's son John married Elizabeth STONE December 15, 1806 at St. John the Baptist, Winster, Derbyshire.  John and Elizabeth had the following children born in Winster:

Son William b. 1807 married Hannah TITTERTON in Elton, Derbyshire on November 8, 1830.  By 1851 William and Hannah have moved to Sheffield, Yorkshire.

Son George married Hannah SMITH on April 16, 1845 at All Saints Church, Youlgreave, Derbyshire. Hannah is living home alone in 1851:

George's brother John (b. 1810) married Mary ASHTON February 15, 1836 at St. John the Baptist Church, Winster, Derbyshire.  They are known to have had a son George b. June 13, 1836, and a son John born about 1842.  They are found residing at Bank Side in Winster 1851:

John's wife Mary died aged 64 in the March quarter of 1872.  John and Mary's son John married Elizabeth WAIN May 25, 1863 in St. Helen's Church, Darley Dale, Derbyshire.  In 1871 they are found residing in Darley Dale:
