Barton Upon Humber, Lincolnshire

William Staveley was born in St. Mary Castlegate, York in 1799.  Prior to moving to Barton Upon Humber, William and his wife Amelia ABRAHAM had lived in Eltisley in Cambridgeshire, Thornton Curtis in Lincolnshire, and Beverley in Yorkshire.  By 1851 William and Amelia have moved to Barton Upon Humber:

The 1851 census shows that William and Amelia had a daughter Caroline about 1848, however a record of her birth has not been located in the GRO indexes.  William died later that same year in Barton, on October 25, 1851. Wife Amelia was buried aged 59 years on May 7, 1863 at St. Mary's Churchyard in Barnetby le Wold, Lincolnshire.

William's eldest son Edward married Ann BLAND and had the following child in Barton:

Michael Edward Staveley b. June 4, 1859 St. Marys, Barton Upon Humber, Lincolnshire Buried Oct 5, 1860

Edward and Ann soon moved to Sheffield, where they are found living in 1861.

William and Amelia's son Charles was a tallow chandler by trade.  He first married Mary Ann BURLEY in 1860, and is living in Gainsborough by 1861.  However, Mary died sometime before 1866.  Charles remarried to an Eliza WRAY in Sculcoates.  Charles and Eliza are found residing in Sculcoates in 1871.  Charles returned to Lincolnshire, where he died in 1879, at the young age of 46 years.

William and Amelia's son Abraham, born in Thornton Curtis, married Elizabeth ALBON at the register office in Kingston Upon Hull on January 30, 1860.  They appear to have had the following children, all christened in Barton:

Emma Staveley b. December 12, 1860 St. Marys, Barton Upon Humber, Lincolnshire
William Staveley b. April 9, 1862 St. Marys, Barton Upon Humber, Lincolnshire

Elizabeth Staveley b. December 14, 1867 St. Marys, Barton Upon Humber, Lincolnshire
Alice Staveley b. March 16, 1871 St. Marys, Barton Upon Humber, Lincolnshire

In 1861 this family is found as follows:

Caroline is recorded as Abraham's niece in 1871. In 1861 Caroline is found residing in Hull as a servant in the employ of William H. Smith, a bookseller.  However, in 1851 Caroline seems to be the daughter of William and Amelia, and would therefore be Abraham's sister.

Abraham died in Lincolnshire in 1880 at the age of 46 years.  The following year the family is found still residing at the local hair dresser's shop in Barton:
