John W. Staveley was born in Kent County Maryland to parents Joseph Staveley and Ann REDGRAVE in 1808. He settled in Missouri and first married Catherine INGRAHAM. John and Catherine had at least four children together before Catherine died in July 1852. In 1855 John W. Staveley married his second wife, Sarah CLAYTON. John and Sarah are found residing in Ralls County by 1860:

John W. Staveley died on January 3 1874.
Son Wilson Linn Staveley married Lavinia GORE in 1868. Wilson and Lavinia have not been located in the 1870 census. Unfortunately, Wilson died in 1873, but his widow and children are found in Monroe County, MO in 1880.
