Leeds, Yorkshire
Thomas Beal Staveley was born in St. Mary Castlegate, Yorkshire in 1806 and was the son of William Staveley and Martha CLAYTON. Thomas married Martha WOOD April 14, 1830 at St. Peter's in Leeds.
It is not clear how many children Thomas and Martha may have had, but In 1861 they are found with the following children residing in Leeds:
1861: Binley Road, Cotham Place, Leeds, Yorkshire, England

It is known that Thomas and Martha had at least two additional children than those listed above. Neither Elizabeth nor Thomas are residing in the household at the time of the 1861 census. Son Edwin has not been located on any subsequent census. Daughter Ann appears to have never married, and resided for most of her life with her sister Sarah. Sarah married John DOBSON in 1866. It appears Thomas Beale was a Druggist by trade, and he is found residing in the Leeds Workhouse in 1871:

Thomas Beal Staveley died in 1900 at the age of 63.
Thomas Beal Staveley (b. 1806) had a brother Mark born in 1808 that also moved to Leeds. Mark married Frances HIRD in Rotherham, Yorkshire on November 29, 1829. It appears that Mark and his half-brother William both were married in Rotherham in the early-mid 1820's, but William moved to Cambridgeshire in the mid 1820's. Mark and Frances appear to have had the following children in Leeds:
| Elizabeth Staveley | b. June 11, 1832 | St. Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire | |
| Walter Staveley | b. July 23, 1833 | St. Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire | |

Daughter Elizabeth married James INGLE at St. Peter in 1853.
Mark Staveley died in 1857 in Leeds.
Mark's daughter, Frances Ann, married George W. VINEY in 1859. The Viney family is residing with Frances, Mark's widow, in 1861:
1861: 16 Caroline St., Leeds, Yorkshire, England
| Francis STAVELEY | Head | W | Female | 52 | Hull, Yorkshire, England | House Proprietor |

| Frederick Mark VINEY | Son | U | Male | 8 m | Leeds, Yorkshire, England | |
| Walter STAVELEY | Son | U | Male | 12 | Leeds, Yorkshire, England | Scholar |
Mark appears to have died prior to the 1861 census (an entry of death in the GRO index suggests he died 1857). The 1861 census records Francis as head of household, but recorded Francis as "Male". Based on the address, and subsequent census entries however, it is believed the enumerator made an error in this entry, and this was actually Mark's wife Frances HIRD Staveley, who is found in the 1871 census residing at the same address, and clearly recorded as female at that time.
1871: 16 Caroline St., Leeds, Yorkshire, England
| Frances STAVELEY | Head | W | Female | 62 | Rotherham, Yorkshire | Independent |
Son Walter appears to have married Sarah Jane HEBDEN in 1869 at St. Peter, Leeds. However, there appear to be no known children in this marriage until about 1879. In 1871 Walter and Sarah are found as follows:
1871: Spring Street West, Leeds, Yorkshire
| Walter STAVELEY | Head | M | Male | 22 | Leeds, York, England | Engine Fitter |
| Sarah Jane STAVELEY | Wife | M | Female | 20 | Armley (Leeds), York, England | Cloth Weaver |
In 1881 Frances is found living with her son Walter:
1881: 13 Romney Place, Leeds, Yorkshire, England

| Sarah Jane STAVELEY | Wife | M | Female | 30 | Farnley, York, England | |

Another unrelated Staveley family in Leeds appears to have originated from Tideswell, in Derbyshire. Henry Staveley was born in 1822, the son of Ralph Staveley and Elizabeth HARDY. In 1841 Henry is residing in St. Martin, Liverpool with his mother and a brother Erasmus. Henry married Sarah PEAKE in Liverpool on February 20, 1848.

Henry Sr.'s wife Sarah apparently died before 1901, although a death entry has not been located in the GRO index for her. Henry Jr.'s wife Jane is not present in the household in 1891. She is found as a visitor in the Dixon household in North Meols, Lancashire:
1891: 7 Adelaide Street, North Meols, Lancashire, England
| Jane STAVELEY | Visitor | M | Female | 37 | Leeds, Yorkshire, England | Dressmaker |

Henry Jr. is recorded as unmarried (not widowed) in the 1901 census, however is wife Jane (nee WOOD) died in 1897. At the time of her death Jane was living with the children in Southport, but after her death son William appears to be living with his grandparents in Leeds:
1901: 69 South Accomodation Road, Leeds, Yorkshire, England
| Thomas WOOD | Head | M | Male | 67 | Whitley Bridge, Yorkshire, England | Blanket Finisher |
| Elizabeth WOOD | Wife | M | Female | 64 | Chickenley, Yorkshire, England | |

Charles Staveley (b. 1885) has not been definitively located in the 1901 census.
