Ifield, Sussex
The following family is that of George Augustus Pepper-Staveley (1823-1890) and Jessie Louisa MACFARLAN (1837-1925). A beautiful stained glass window was placed in May 1927 in their memory at the Church of St. Margaret of Antioch, Ifield, in West Sussex by their daughter, Jessie Georgina Annie Staveley, and her husband Dr. Robert Swan Aitchison. The window is positioned on the south wall, and the memorial states "To the Glory of God and in loving memory of George Augustus Pepper-Staveley, his wife, Jessie Louisa and their grandson, George Staveley Aitchison".
It should be noted that the name Staveley in this instance was not acquired via direct descent. Jessie Louisa MacFarlan was the daughter of Mary Ann ROOKE and Donald MacFarlan. Jessie's mother, Mary Ann ROOKE, had a brother Edward (Jessie's Uncle) who married a cousin Elizabeth STAVELEY, daughter of Elizabeth ROOKE and Richard STAVELEY of Doncaster, Yorkshire. In 1868, Jessie Louisa MACFARLAN married George Augustus PEPPER in Darlington, Durham. For reasons unknown, the name Staveley was later added to the Pepper name sometime after this marriage.

George Augustus Pepper Staveley died in 1890 at the age of 67 years.

In 1898, Amy Bertha Pepper Staveley married Ernest Henry BRASS. In 1902, Amy married her second husband, Cameron Dimsdale SHUTE, and had a daughter Elizabeth Nerina in 1908.
